What is the 'stocked' length of hypodermic tubing?
Our hypo tubes are stocked in 5 ft lengths. You can order tubing in random lengths of 1 foot to 5 feet.

Top

Can tubes be cut to various lengths?
Yes. Popper provides blunt tubes/cut-offs services. All you have to do is pick your gauge and select the length. All blunt tubes have finished ends.

Top

Do hypodermic tubes have finished ends?
No. Hypodermic tubes are stocked in 5 foot length and have crimped ends. If you need a tube with a finished end, please specify a blunt tube or cut-off.

Top

Do you sell 'starter' tubing kits?
Yes. Starter or tubing kits are available in large/medium and fine gauge. 316 stainless steel kits are also available..

Top

What is the minimum order for tubing services?
$75.

Top

What types of tubing do you sell?
We stock a wide range of 304 stainless steel tubing, #3 full hard. We also stock 316 stainless steel tubing and wire.

Top

Do you make custom tubing?
We offer custom drawn tubes to specifications. Note that lead-time for custom tubes range from 4 weeks to 8 weeks or more depending upon your material and size requirements.

Top

What is the minimum for custom drawn tubes?
Minimums for custom drawn tubes range from 150 feet to 500 feet. We will be happy to provide you with a detailed quotation.

Top

What are nominal OD and nominal ID listed in your tubing catalog?
These numbers represent the mid-range of each dimension. For example: if the OD range for a 6G tube is 0.202-0.204, the nominal OD is 0.203. The tube dimension can also be represented as the 'nominal' +/- the tolerance: 0.203" +/- 0.001"

Top

What is the lettter designation after the tubing number like 316L?
This letter represents a type of 316 stainless steel tubing that has better corrosion resistance than standard tubes. A typical chemical analysis of the tubing can be provided.

Top

What are cut-offs and does Popper provide this service?
Cut-offs are blunt tubes - hypodermic tubes cut to a specified length with finished, burr-free ends.

Top

What is a cannula?
Cannula is a blunt tube that has been ground to have one or two sharp ends.

Top

What is the difference between a cannula and a needle?
A needle is a cannula with a hub (a metal or plastic Luer connector used to attach the needle to a syringe or other device).

Top

What is stylet wire?
Wires are stainless steel rods that are used to reinforce needles or to clean needles. Stylet wires are stocked in gauges similar to hypodermic tubing and they are manufactued to fit inside the ID of a corresponding tube.

Top

What types of internal surface finish does your tubing have?
Standard internal surface finish for hypodermic tubing is 32rms-64rms. Popper offers improved finish on tubing from 16rms-32rms and down to smooth bore of 8rms-16rms.

Top

Are there processes that can improve external surface finish?
External surface finish can be improved by buffing, electo-polishing and a variety of coating technologies such as Teflon.

Top

Are there processes that can improve internal surface finish?
Internal surface finish can be improved by micro-polishing and a variety of coating technologies (Teflon, Parylene, PSX).

Top

What is RMS or Ra and what is the difference between the two?
These are designators of surface roughness in tubing. The smaller the number ,the sleeker/smoother the surface. RMS is typically used in the US and Ra is used elsewhere. Ra values are typically 11% less than corresponding RMS values..

Top

Does Popper provide tubular fabrication services?
Yes. Popper's primary focus is small diameter tubing fabrication. From a raw tube to a finished device that is assembled and packaged. All of these services are provided under one roof.

Top

What is the largest tube OD you offer?
6G or 0.203".

Top

What is the smallest tube OD you offer?
For stock tubing, 32 regular wall or 0.009" OD.

Top

What is your minimum order requirement for cut-offs?
All of our tubing services have a minimum order of $50.

Top

What is your minimum order requirement for tube grinding/pointed cannula?
All of our tubing services have a minimum order of $50.

Top

What is a stubs needle gauge?
This is a device that is used to quickly and accurately measure hypodermic-size tubing and match its outside diameter to the corresponding needle gauge. Popper offers a handy stubs needle gauge ruler.

Top

What are pressure yields for capillary tubes?
Working pressure=11,840 PSI, Yield Pressure= 16,444 PSI, Burst Pressure = 46,043 PSI.

Top

What ISO specification do hypo tubes conform to?
Our hypo tubing conform to US standard GG-N-196 and ISO 9626.

Top

Does hypodermic tubing have to be passivated?
No. Raw tubing must be corrosive resistant when tested to IS 9626. Chemical passivation is typically performed after machining processes (fabrication) to insure that no free ions have been deposited on the stainless during machining..
